The‘House of the Sirocco’ is a building that originally dates from Roman times and is situated within an immense pre-historic cave. Converted into a garconiére in the 18th century by Baron Fuccio Corbino, it was buried in the early 19th century by the family who owned it, because they had come to consider it a “house of shame”.
It was brought back to life in 1987, and thanks to its historical and architectural importance, it is now protected by Italy’s Cultural Assets Agency. It is very much a forerunner of the biothermal home, since it is equipped with thermal spas featuring an ingenious water circulation system that can keep the water fresh, even in summer.
